2023's PowerTrip Festival saw the Luz team design a virtual set extension on a massive scale. We filled it with content based on the headlining band's aesthetic universe and broke up the monolithic planar screens with multiple virtual screens populated with IMAG and signature artist content. The collaboration was so successful that Metallica brought the virtual stage show on their M72 European tour in support of their 11th album, 72 Seasons.
Metallica’s live shows typically involve elaborate physical sets that couldn’t be scaled to the festival stage. The solutions we brought to the table created virtual environments that rebuilt their traditional installations in video. With little compromise, Metallica was able to own the colossal, generic festival stage with their singular aesthetic, standing out from a roster of rock legends.
